Mohammad Abdul Qayyum

Mr. Qayyum was a career civil servant in Bangladesh. Having spent over three decades in the civil service, he retired as an additional secretary. With an illustrated career in the civil service, he was the National Project Director (NPD) of the multi-donor supported Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP)-II. CDMP-II was one of the most extensive programmes of the government. Previously, he was the Director-General of the Directorate of Family Planning and Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) . In the civil service, he also worked in different Ministries and the field administration in different capacities. He is one of the leading disaster management experts in the country.

As an academic faculty, he is currently associated with the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies and the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Science, Dhaka University. He is also an adjunct Professor at the North-South University. He has hands-on experience on disaster risk management; public sector governance; community development and poverty reduction; institutional analysis and human resource management.

He studied political science at the University of Dhaka. He attended many training programs at home and abroad in his professional career. He visited many countries of different continents of the world.

He loves to share his ideas and thoughts with different non-governmental organizations to advance the pro-poor agenda to reduce poverty and vulnerability in the country.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Charity Platform. He also sits on the board of different social development organizations.
